Huckleberry Picking

Huckleberry season usually runs from Mid-July through August.  The cool climate produces mountainsides dense with heavy bushes.  Don't miss the huckleberry Festival this summer: Aug 12-13th!

  • Prime huckleberry-picking spots vary year to year depending on the climate.   When you come to visit, ask a local to point you in the right direction!
  • Huckleberry Festival: August 14 & 15 in Donnelly.

Sailing / Boating

In the summer months, Lake Cascade is a prime destination for boating, sailing, and water skiing.  Regattas can be found on Cascade Lake and McCall's Payette Lake and both lakes offer good facilities for launching or docking your boat.

Scenic Flights & Backcountry Access

Get a spectacular view of the Idaho backcountry by scheduling a scenic flight with one of the area's local charter companies.  Backcountry pilots can also get you into the Idaho's roadless areas to enjoy world-class backpacking, rafting, hunting, and recreation.

  • Arnold Aviation (Cascade)
  • G&S Aviation (Donnelly)
  • McCall Aviation (McCall)

Fishing

Fishing opportunities in Donnelly and the surrounding areas can be found year-round.  During the appropriate season, you can fish for salmon, steelhead, rainbow trout, bass, catfish, or perch.  Sturgeon are catch-and-release on the Snake River in Hells Canyon.  Fly-fishing is very popular and many local businesses provide gear and advice.  Ice fishing is popular in the winter when Lake Cascade is frozen over.

Golf

There are several golf courses in the Idaho Heartland.  You'll find everything from meticulously manicured and groomed courses to the challenging 18-hole wilderness course at Yellow Pine.

Hiking

The forests and mountains around Donnelly contain thousands of miles of hiking trails.  Whether you're looking for a light day hike on a groomed trail or a multi-day expedition up rugged peaks, the Central Idaho mountains can provide it.

Hot Springs

There are both natural and developed hot springs in the area.  In the winter when the road is inaccessible to cars, rent a snowmobile and ride to Bergdorf Hot Springs!
